A small 2024 crossover study in Frontiers in Nutrition, involving six healthy volunteers, measured collagen-derived peptides in the bloodstream after ingestion and found that a meaningful share (roughly a third to a half of the marker peptide measured) remained in intact, peptide-bound form in circulation rather than being fully broken down to individual amino acids — supporting the idea that hydrolysed collagen is genuinely absorbed as bioactive peptides, though this was a small study and more research would be needed to generalise the exact figures. That means the liposomal argument for collagen is less about “rescuing” a molecule that would otherwise be destroyed by digestion (as with glutathione) and more about the general goals of liposomal delivery — protecting the peptides through the acidic stomach environment and supporting consistent uptake. Some manufacturers pair liposomal delivery with collagen for these general reasons and for product consistency; the evidence specifically comparing liposomal collagen peptides against standard hydrolysed collagen peptides is still limited and developing, so we’d rather be upfront about that than overstate a delivery advantage we can’t fully back up for this particular ingredient.

A 2013 randomised, placebo-controlled study in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, for example, gave 55 healthy adults either 40 mg of undenatured type II collagen or a placebo daily for 120 days and found the collagen group had better knee extension and more pain-free exercise capacity after a standardised stepmill test. That’s a genuinely positive result, but it’s specific to undenatured Type II collagen rather than the hydrolysed Type I/II/III blend format most liposomal collagen products, including ours, actually use — the two shouldn’t be assumed to perform identically.
